Oystercatchers, Gulls, and lots of birding.

Hi readers, me and Dad went out birding today, we did a lot of gull watching with some success but we also had a few early spring migrants including Oystercatcher. Here's all our site sightings lists for today.

RSPB Sandwell Valley- Common Gull x1, Black headed Gull 50+, Goosander 10+, Lapwing 10+, Gadwall 5+, Oystercatcher x2, Tufted Duck 10+, Wigeon 10+, Snipe x4, Buzzard x1, Lesser Black backed Gull 10+.

Also today the main lake was frozen at the Valley today, this gave me and Dad a chance to take a look at some Gulls, we mainly saw black headed, and lesser black backed gulls, I noticed one icey gull which had a very elongated bill and sort of square head this resembles a Caspian Gull but I am not so sure so I'm not going to give a positive sighting.

After looking around Sandwell we decided to take a look a Chasewater in hope of a few good gulls popping up and we did get some luck as you will see in our sightings list,

Chasewater- Common Gull 5+, Oystercatcher x3, Med Gull x1, Little Grebe x2, Goldeneye x8, Lesser black backed Gull 50+, Herring Gull 20+.

The Med Gull is today's star bird and is a good bird for me to add to my year list, a bit of luck helped with this bird because me and Dad decided to sit on a bench and over look the Gulls and instantly I noticed the Med Gull that was reasonable close to us in the water. You can see from the picture I have added that the bird was clearly a Med Gull.

After looking round Chasewater we decided to finish the days birding with a quick look around Clayhanger here's our sightings list,

Clayhanger- Little Grebe x1, Common Gull x1, Black headed Gull 20+, Carrion Crow x1, Coot 5+, Wigeon 10+, Mallard 10+, Oystercatcher x2, Goosander x16, Canada Goose x2, Tufted Duck 5+, Herring Gull x2, Lesser Black backed Gull 5+, Jackdaw x2, Lapwing x10.

You can see we had even more Oystercatcher at Clayhanger which is a good sign that they could do well this year, I know that the pair at Sandwell are the same pair that have been around for years we can tell this because the female only has one foot.
