Hi readers, I'm sure you are all aware of the current weather situation at the moment, because of the severe weather I will not be out birding this weekend. This weather would be normal if it was winter at the moment but as you may know its spring and we are still getting snow, the weather broadcast on BBC midlands news yesterdays really did enlighten this as it was mentioned that this time last year the weather was actually quite nice and we were getting 20 degrees most days of the week.
Many of you may have also noticed the shortage of early summer migrants such as Chifchaff and Sand Martins, it is possible that they have been put off by the weather and in a way the migration has been put on hold. I did however see my first Chiffchaff of the year last week but it was the only one I have seen all year so far. After over looking bird news for the past couple of weeks in Staffordshire only around 2 or 3 Sand Martins have turned up and Chiffchaff hasn't been reported to much either.
I am hoping that the migration does begin properly soon, I am looking forward to seeing the warblers again and hopefully for the first time ever a Grasshopper Warbler.
Thanks for reading have a good week all- WMBB
