Hi readers, this evening John Holian gave me a call and asked whether I wanted to go to Essington quarry Pool with him in hope of getting a few good birds. My visit yesterday proved to be very unsuccessful but a lot can change in a day, or maybe not in our case. There was little in a variety of species around but we had a few things to look at. John was first alerted to a large female Sparrow Hawk flying over the tree's I missed the bird but it was still around. We then moved on to walking towards the pool which gave me a good year tick in the form of a Yellowhammer me and dad had heard one calling yesterday but couldn't connect with the bird. We had quite a few of the birds this evening which were lovely to look at with their bright yellow colour.
After a good look at the Yellowhammers we then began on our extremely windy and cold walk towards the pool, the wind may have been hard to walk around in but we managed to connect with a pair or Goldeneye and a few other birds that were knocking around. We did keep our eyes open for any Wheatear in the fields or the Little Owl on any trees or sitting on any stumps but we had no luck there, things were relatively quiet but lets hope things start to pick up with the migration soon. Here's our sightings list from our evening walk around,
Essington Quarry Pool- Goldeneye x2, Fieldfare x8, Tufted Duck 10+, Little Grebe x1, Pheasant x1, Coot x3, Gadwall x2, Shoveller, Sparrow Hawk x1, Yellowhammer 5+, Canada Goose x1.
A small but good list similar to yesterdays lists, not to much to report but what was around was good to look at, to me it isn't really about whats around its about going out and enjoying some birdwatching.
Thanks for reading ,enjoy the rest of the week all- WMBB
