A sunny September day

Hi readers, as you may have seen today has been a resonable warm and sunny day, so as usual we did some birding. And our usual haunt, Sandwell Valley was in need of one of our weekly visits. Thing were quiet and virtually constant gull scanning failed today and I could seem to find any Med gulls amongst the other gulls. The numbers if Shoveller has risen quite a bit and some of the males have begun to get their winter plumage back. A few Pochard were also about along with a few Teal also. Little Grebe numbers have also risen to 3 individuals, and towards the end of our morning visit a Kingfisher showed up and did some fishing. Here's our main sightings from the visit,

RSPB Sandwell Valley- Black headed Gull 50+, Coot 20+, Moorhen 5+, Shoveller 10+, Pochard 5+, Teal 5+, Lapwing x44, Lesser black Backed Gull 5+, Cormorant 5+, Mute Swan x2, Mallard 5+, Grey Heron x1, Woodpigeon 5+, Kingfisher x1, Stock Dove x1, Tufted Duck 10+.

So things were quiet round the valley this morning. So I decided to do a little bit of web searching to see what was about, the best place for us to get to within reach was Clayhanger Marsh where a juv Black Tailed Godwit was reported, so we decided to go and have a look see if we could get the bird. Sadly it didn't seem to be around, but there was five Wigeon around which was something nice to see this early on in Autumn. Again plenty of Teal around, Little Grebe, Great crested Grebe were also around. There was also plenty of Buzzard around throughout the visit. Here's our main sightings,

Clayhanger- Buzzard 3-4, Teal 5+, Mallard 5+, Grey Heron x1, Moorhen 5+, Coot x1, Wigeon x5, Black headed Gull 30+, Herring Gull x1, Little Grebe 5+, Great crested Grebe 5+, Jackdaw x6, Mute Swan x3 (+2 Cygnets), Greenfinch x1.

So again very quiet but another nice sunny walk around, we also visited Chasewater but only had Lesser Black backed, and Black headed Gulls. And other usual suspects. Things have been nice and sunny but quiet everywhere we have been today. But I can't complain it's been a lovely sunny days birding. There should be a post next Sunday.

Thanks for reading and have a nice week all- WMBB
