The migration is kicking in.

Hi readers, me and Dad enjoyed a look around Sandwell Valley this morning, and were surprised by the amount of migrants that were around, we had a good amount of summer waders including Common Sandpiper, Oystercatcher, and Little Ringed and Ringed Plover. We also got two Common terns flying around. A lot of the waders were beginning to display and some mating which is a good sign that this could be a good year granted that the gulls don't find the chicks this year. Dad also mentioned to me that he had heard the Cettis Warbler near the hide gate which ironically is one of the first places I ever heard it last year. We also got some good views of a White Wagtail which I am sure most of you will know is a sub species to the Pied Wagtail in the UK. Its great to see the migration kicking in in fact I was reading Sandwell Valley bird news on Twitter yesterday and noticed Egyptian Goose had been around along with Yellow Wagtail and Wheatear. It seems the Valley is beginning to have a good birding year this year lets hope things still keep getting better. Anyway here's our main sightings today,

RSPB Sandwell Valley- Common Sandpiper x2, Common Tern x2, Little Ringed Plover x4, Ringed Plover x1, Grey Heron x1, Kestrel x1, Canada Goose 20+, Swallow x1, Teal x2, Oystercatcher x2, Jay x2, Pied Wagtail x1, White Wagtail x1

It was interesting to see some Teal were still around seen as they should really have gone by now but you do get the occasional few staying around. After going to Sandwell Valley we decided to go to Bartley green Reservoir to see what was about, it turned out very little was around as usual on the reservoir, but recently a small flood has formed in a field near the road going round the reservoir that seems to be attracting the attention of a few good birds, one being a single Little Ringed Plover that was flying around we also had masses of Swallows and a single House Martin flying around. Although there was little around for Bartley this is a good number of birds, out of the few years me and dad have been going to the reservoir more regularly we haven't seen or even heard of anything rare of different about, but theres always chance for anything to pop up seen as its such a big place. Here's our main sightings from the reservoir today,

Bartley green Reservoir- Little Ringed Plover x1, House Martin x1, Swallow 20+, Coot x1, Canada Goose 5+.

Anyway to finish off the post here's a few photos I took from the day,
