The eye of the Robin

Hi readers, I have vowed to post more often on this blog so I have been trying to find the odd thing to post about. If you are a regular viewer of the blog you may have seen me mention a Fieldfare in my garden, to this day the bird is still there and still feeds on the apples on our tree. After studying its behaviour a little more I have noticed it behaves very aggressively to Blackbirds, when House Sparrows and Starlings approach the tree it barely even reacts. I thought this was very odd do any of you have any ideas why it might be behaving in this way, any comments would be obliged.

Anyway on to the main focus of the post, and it again is a question for you as the blog viewers. I forgot to mention this on previous posts but at Sandwell Valley (who would of guessed I would mention that site) I noticed a Robin that was coming particularly close to people as the walk along the pathway near towards the marsh screen. To you this may seem very normal as Robins are very friendly birds but seen as it was coming close I thought I would get some good shots of it with my Camera, and if you look at them (below) you will notice something very peculiar.

As you can see from the photo the Robin has some strange markings and swelling underneath it eye. I have narrowed down a few possibilities, the main one being is that as a birder I know that Robins are very territorial so the markings could be injuries from a fight with another Robin, another reasons for the markings could be some sort of infected wound. If any of you have any ideas as to why the Robin is in this condition please don't hesitate to comment on the post.

So I will try to do some topical posts in the week, I'm not sure what about exactly but I'm sure I will figure something out. If I don't post in the week provided the weather is ok there should be a post on Sunday evening. Lets hope the weather warms up a little I really want to take a look at that Bittern down at Upton Warren on Sunday. Lets hope eh.

Thanks for reading enjoy the rest of the week all- WMBB
