Wyre Forest, Dowles Brook

Hi readers, time for another installment of birding for you to read through this week things are a lot less exciting despite our visit to the Wyre Forest this week. I have to admit its a very scenic and beautiful place to go to and always somewhere I enjoy walking around. There was a noticeable lack of birds throughout the morning, plenty of Goldcrest, a single Treecreeper, Grey Wagtail, Chiffchaff, and a calling Willow Warbler. We walked quite a long time, in areas we hadn't been to before, plenty of woodpeckers around but didn't even get views to fully ID them, only quick fly bys through the woods.

We got over to Wood Warbler territory, and walked through deep mud that we weren't expecting to actually be there at all, when trying to avoid the mud we ended up walking up steep hills in the woods and I became fearful for my life when I managed to slip over on one of these hills, lucklily a tree saved me from falling any further. After all this there was still no sign of Wood Warbler not even a calling bird not one, it was only until the very end of our walk in the area where they are seen when one appeared after calling loudly, even then the views were short but it was a stunning examples of a Wood Warbler the bird gradually stopped calling and disapeared.

At this point we moved down to Dowles Brook, Dipper territory, it did look as if water levels were quite high or at least higher than last time we came, which may have made the Dipper more elusive because not one turned up, we did have a good look around but no sign of any Dipper.

So still fancying our chances for something else good we decided to go over to Trimpley Reservoir in search of a few Mandarin, and we did have some success, a single female Mandarin was on the far side of the smaller pool, and showed briefly before disapearing. Honestly the Wyre was very quiet and quieter than I expected especially when comparing to our last visit we got some great stuff. Anyway Wood Warbler was a great one to see and let's not forget the Mandarin stunning birds.

Yes it's a short post this week but there is little to post about, things will be back to normal routine next week we will be over to Sandwell Valley as usual, this week is shorter than usual but I can do nothing about it, If I get the chance I may add the few photos I got from yesterday to this post if not the next post will be next Sunday as usual if any earlier I will tweet about it.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the week all- WMBB
