Birding today.

Hi all heres what me and my Dad saw whilst birdwatching today.

RSPB Sandwell valley- Oystercatcher x2 adults (all three chicks have been seen flying), Tufted duck 10+, Canada goose 20+, Buzzard x1, Common tern x2 (and 1 chick), Jay x1, Cettis warbler, black cap 5+, chiff chaff x1 (heard), LRP x2 (one still on nest), Reed warbler 5+, we also saw a strange bird of prey chasing after the herudines which we think may have been a Hobby but we are not sure.

I did have a new bird today and that is the Cettis warbler. While walking down to the hide I heard a Cettis warbler calling, after a while it stoped and we continued walking down to the hide, we then spent around half and hour in the hide and began hearing the Cettis warbler on the left hand side of the reserve. We realised the bird was calling from a viewing point which is viewable from the left side of the hide.

Me and Dad decided to go to the area where the Cettis warbler was calling and see if we could get a view of it, and when we got to the viewing point we were greated by silence for around 5 minutes, then we suddenly heard the loud call of the Cettis warbler possible less than a metre away from us, after a while the bird was accidently flushed by someone trying to see the bird and we watched it fly from the bush we were looking at to another.

I rambled on a bit tonight but I just wanted to let you know where it is best to see the bird.

I will be updating my Sneyd reservoir birding blog tonight also.
